Home

I finally got out at about 10:20pm and landed around midnight...ended up having three seats to myself and slept the whole way hom.e I emailed my boss and said I would be in late so I just woke up...horrible cabbie on the way home too...whatever, I am going in to get my meetings done and then I am going to leave early to get some rest and pack for my weekend...I think that I will work from home tomorrow too and I am seriously considering talking to my boss about a 4 day work week when I am in town. That way I could at least have one day to myself.

Travel is not normally this bad but the last two months have been horrible.....the industry is definitely declining. I know they can't help weather delays but they can help how they handle it and switching us to 3 different gates and giving no updates is not the way to do it. My coworker didn't land in Atlanta until 3;30am and Delta told her they were cancelling all flights out of Newark today to catch up...what the heck? No other airline is doing that...they lost her as a customer..she said she is going to use up all her miles, go on a trip that was already planned and then switch airlines...unfortunately that is happening with a lot of people. The weather is one thing but when you see every other airline going out except Delta you have to wonder why they don't go too. I already have a couple flights scheduled with them and I do like the skymiles but they really need to get it together :-(

No flying today and sorry about all the traveling posts...I do fly to OH tomorrow and I hope that no drama is involved!! We shall see!

Geez, that sucks. Sorry I'm a little behind, but what exactly is your job? Glad you made it home - finally. Hope your next trip is totally uneventful!

I think the Delta employees see the writing on the wall as well. I have a friend there that is taking early retirement in December and looking for a job elsewhere.

Traveling during the summer just sucks in general, doesn't matter what airline. When I flew back and forth to DC during the summer a couple of years ago, I consistently got home after midnight and I switched between AirTran and Delta. Judd is feeling pretty good about Delta right now, they actually did well last quarter.

I forgot about Judd working there. That's good about last quarter. At least with him being a CPA he can get a job anywhere if something were to happen!

I don't think that Delta is going under or anything, but I do think that a lot of business travelers are jumping to other airlines because when you are delayed for 2 hours or more and see Continental going out of the same airport to the same city...that is the airline and that is what is happening. If it was just weather then I would understand (part of it definitely was but we were delayed before the weather started when other airlines weren't) and I think that I am pretty good about being patient in airports (at least when I am not sick) but I have barely had a flight be on time this whole year! And yes, traveling does suck during the summer in general because there is lots of weather to deal with but after 5 years of traveling this has been the worst year by far and across all airlines, not just Delta. I prefer Delta to other airlines but again, when you see other airlines going out and you are sitting there it gets tough to stay loyal...Airtran and Continental both went last night before Delta did....Delta just seems to cancel flights a lot earlier than other airlines and then when everything clears up they have a ton of people to deal with and it backs up other stuff (might not be the case, but it seems that way). I wasn't trying to offend you or Judd but just talking about my personal experience lately with what I have observed, so I hope you didn't think that I was trying to be rude or anything.

Rebecca, I am the Compliance Manager and basically we have 84 US locations and we are trying to get them all using the same processes and such so I fly all over to clean up messes and help train them and stuff.

Oh, and part of it is just Atlanta...there are too many planes coming in and out of here!!!

DC is just as bad so I am not surprised you were delayed a lot going between the two :-( NYC is the same way with Atlanta....UGH...the east coast is just two crowded..you never hear about delays that stay on the west coast and don't have to connect over here....weird....unless it is CO in the winter or something...hmmm, maybe I should move out west????

nope, don't think you were rude. Just trying to stick up for the company that pays half my bills :) My family and I have traveled a lot with them lately, buddy passes & standby and we have had a few minor delays but not one cancelled flight. I don't think they are cancelling flights just to cancel them, if it isn't a hub airport, they might not have much say - the other airlines may just get priority.

I do think it could be all the airlines right now. Every time Matt has flown this week (all US Airways) they have been late - usually sitting on the plane. Although today the pilot told them they would not be leaving the gate until 11am and taking off at 11:40 and the flight was scheduled for 9:55. Hoping he runs somewhat on time home tomorrow.

Philly is largely US Airways as well - and it's AWFUL. I don't think I have EVER gone out of Philly on time. I DO, however, like that there's 5 smaller lines for security at Philly (one for each concourse). That maze of security in Atlanta makes me want to scream.

Oh gosh...when I was in philly it took me so long to get through security...way longer than Atlanta...of course it was really this one guy's fault and you could tell...if people stepped over the line he would make them go back to the regular line and then make them wait until they were called...it backed it all up and I am sure that normally it is great. I like airports that have that kind of security unless you have a connection where you have to switch terminals (LAX) and you have to go back through on a tight connection...then again, I go through the "special" line in Atlanta so I don't ever have to wait that long :-)

I have said before that I think that it is actually the combo of Atlanta and Delta that is the problem so maybe it is just whatever airline is at that city as a hub is the worst one there? hmmmmm

A lot of Matt's problems have been weather related to New York. Not sure what is going on, but he is hoping all straighten out by tomorrow afternoon.
